Volunteer Restorative Justice Facilitator
What will I be doing?

Administrative activities such as maintaining case files and notes.

Facilitating restorative face-to-face meetings and providing updates on how things are progressing.

Contact with potential participants to get their consent to engage in the restorative justice process.

Researching and evaluating information about the restorative justice process.

Explaining what Sussex Pathways does and what support is available.

Supporting with restorative justice reports.
What skills do I need?

Approachable and non-judgemental manner.

How much time am I expected to give?

We encourage volunteers working within restorative justice to commit to approximately 18 hours per case spread over several weeks, potentially amounting to six hours per week. Volunteering times are flexible as appointments with clients can be made during the day, in the evening (up to 7.30pm) or at weekends.

The role will involve travelling to a local office for regular one-to-ones with your manager and to visit clients, some of whom could be in prison. Whilst every effort will be made to minimise travel, you will likely need to use public transport or, ideally, your own vehicle, especially in places where public transport services are limited. All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, including travel expenses, in line with Sussex Pathways’ Expenses Policy.
What does the training involve?

Sussex Pathways Training – this is a 1.5 day consecutive face-to-face training course in Lewes.

Restorative Justice Facilitator Training - this is a 4-day consecutive face-to-face training session.

Prison - induction and training sessions.

This opportunity is available to all applicants aged 18 and over.
This role requires references and internal safeguarding checks. Volunteers will be asked to provide all relevant documents for HMP Lewes to carry out these checks.
All volunteers must have internet access and will be provided with a Sussex Pathways email address that they use regularly and be willing to engage in our electronic means of communication, keeping up-to-date with information on our intranet, maintaining personal details on our database, and engaging in two-way communication.
